Clint's watch in Post 17, therefore, is a scarce watch, one of 109 if the estimate I have cited is correct. Some 17j's appear to have been made, but I have never seen one.

One estimate I have seen of AWCO grade Model 1888 production is about 2000 OF/600 Htg. Exact production numbers do not seem to be available. The other two are Riverside Maximus grade, shown below.Īll these Model 1888 grades are fairly scarce. Grade (an 18k 21j OF, a 14k 19j OF, and a 18k 19j hunter).
#WALTHAM POCKET WATCH MODELS REGISTRATION#
The trademark registration document itself shows a renewal of the trademark (apparently the first renewal) to “the Keystone Watch Case Company, a corporation of Pennsylvania.”Ī lot this information comes from the Encyclopedia, an invaluable resource. However, according to the encyclopedia article on Keystone, “Regardless of ownership, the cases continued to be marked with the familiar trade names and trade marks, and made by their respective companies, under their own management, in their existing facilities.” Later, the Keystone name was used in conjunction with the trademark. This, despite the fact that by 1904 Crescent, as well as other watch case companies, had been acquired by the Keystone Watch Case Co. The trademark was registered to The Crescent Watch Case Co., of New York, N.Y. The trademark Statement indicates “The trademark has been continuously used in the business of said corporation since about the year 1885.” (bottom of first column).Ĭertainly, an ad in the October 9, 1901, edition of The Jewelers’ Circular – Weekly shows the trademark in question. The trademark on the case was registered October 3, 1905, on the basis of an application filed April 17, 1905. I found many patents granted that date but have no idea which might be the one referred to. I found a couple of patents that might apply, US297123 and US297533, but I am not sure which, if either, is correct. The cuvette carries a patent date of April 4, 1884. The movement is housed in a Crescent Watch Case Co. There was also an open face Model 88, grade 24 made in a run of 1000 about the same time (SN’s 5462001 – 5463000).

It is the 11j cousin to the 15j Royal grade. The movement is a Model 1888, grade 24, made between August and November 1892.
